I was in the emergency room of a hospital in awful pain. A woman was in my room'lette asking questions she read from a clipboard.

"What religion?" asked my Inquisitor.

"What do you recommend?" I sobbed.

There I sat - tears streaming down my face - and I was being grilled about religion by a woman and her clipboard.

Instead of spending money to buy enough doctors to meet the demand, this place invested its surplus in people who go from patient to patient with clipboards full of questions. I wonder if there is special training or certification for this duty.

The hospital was owned and operated by the Southern Baptist faith - the only religious preference to trace its formation back to slavery. The Southern Baptists were in favor of slavery, and that was a good enough reason to start a new religion.

I said "Write down Druid," assuming it would end the discussion.

"Really!?!" shrieked the woman. "My husband is a pagan but won't discuss it with me. Could you answer some questions?"

"Sure, but you have to get me something really strong for this pain," I retorted.

"Deal," she said.

And she did.

And we talked.

And that was my lesson for the day: just because an organization is corrupt or bigoted doesn't mean all its parts are that way.
